Mussoorie is one of India's most beloved hill stations — the Queen of Hills, as it has been called for over a century. Every weekend, thousands of visitors make the journey up from Dehradun and Delhi for the views, the Mall Road, Kempty Falls, and that cool mountain air. What Mussoorie does not have, however, is private pool villas. At 2,000 metres elevation, a swimming pool simply is not practical for most of the year.
The solution is straightforward: base yourself at a private pool villa in Dehradun, just 40 minutes below Mussoorie, and make the hill station a day trip. You get the mountain experience and the pool — one does not have to come at the expense of the other.
The elevation and climate that make Mussoorie so pleasant in summer — cool temperatures, cloud cover, frequent mist — are precisely what make a swimming pool impractical. The water would be uncomfortably cold for most of the year. Property costs at altitude are also significantly higher, and space is limited on the narrow ridgeline where Mussoorie sits.
Dehradun, at 640 metres, has a far warmer climate — warm enough for a pool to be genuinely enjoyable from March through October, yet cool enough to be meaningfully more comfortable than the plains. The half-hour drive between the two means you can have both.
"Stay in the forest at the foot of the hills. Swim in the morning. Drive up to Mussoorie in the afternoon. Return to your private garden by evening."
AruBhi Cottage sits in Langha Range, Dehradun, directly opposite a protected forest reserve on Chakrata Road. The property offers three bedrooms for up to eight guests with a private outdoor swimming pool, a lush enclosed garden, and an outdoor theatre.
The location is significant — Chakrata Road runs northwest from Dehradun, which puts the cottage roughly 40 minutes from Mussoorie via the Mussoorie Road and 45 minutes from Rishikesh. It is genuinely midway between multiple hill destinations, making it an excellent base for a multi-day trip that explores more than one place.

The road to Mussoorie is narrow in sections and can be congested on weekends, especially in May and June. Leave early — before 9am — to beat the traffic on the way up, and aim to leave Mussoorie by 4pm to avoid the returning evening rush.
Private vehicles are restricted in some sections of Mall Road during peak hours. Park at the Library Chowk or Picture Palace parking areas and walk. Electric taxis run along the ridge.
Mussoorie is generally 8–10°C cooler than Dehradun. Carry a jacket even in summer — evenings on the Mall Road can be chilly. The cottage in Dehradun will be warmer and perfect for evenings in the garden or by the pool.
March to June — clear skies, warm enough for the pool, excellent visibility from Mussoorie viewpoints. September to November — post-monsoon clarity, the hills at their greenest, fewer crowds. December to February — Mussoorie may see light snowfall; the pool is less practical but the cottage is beautiful in the cooler months.
